Region: South America
Country: Bolivia
Date: 1996 - 1998

Despite being land-locked, Bolivia possesses extensive freshwater resources. With increasing environmental pressure from both fishermen and other resource users, careful planning and management are necessary for further sustainable development. An MEP team assisted the Government with research into the fisheries resources and aquaculture potential of Bolivia's lakes and rivers. The team also provided technical assistance in aquaculture, marketing and post-harvest activities, the environment, extension work and training, institutional strengthening and fishing gear technology.
