Following accidental loss of 50 tonnes of sodium cyanide from a cargo vessel in Chilean waters, MEP provided guidance to the vessel's insurers and local authorities on all environmental and fisheries results of the incident. In particular, MEP reviewed all available data on physical and chemical oceanography, marine biology and fisheries. MEP also carried out a detailed environmental and economic impact assessment.
