Technical assistance to implement an integrated project to assist the industrial fisheries sector. Main activities included monitoring and analysis of resource potential, inshore and offshore; increasing fish catches by the introduction of new fishing methods and improvement of vessels; improvement of catch handling, processing and marketing facilities. Existing vessels were upgraded for training purposes and three new vessels were designed; a computerised resource database was introduced to enable efficient fishery resource management. MEP operated a comprehensive training programme in China and the U.K. and a fishing simulator was installed for training in modern electronics and methods.
