MEP provided an international team of fisheries consultants to study, analyse and plan coastal resource management in a region suffering from over-exploitation and pollution. The Asian Development Bank funded project was based in the Zhousan Archipelago, south of Shanghai, an area of great biological significance for the whole China Sea. The survey was carried out by our own technical experts, in conjunction with a number of Chinese counterparts with expertise in mariculture, environment, resource management, socio-economics and coastal zone management. The project produced a twenty year resource management plan for the region covering fishing and exploitation control, sustainable and equable development, environmental monitoring and pollution control strategies, alternative income generation and long-term MSY research.
