The project aims to prevent marine environmental pollution and conserve coastal resources in China by demonstrating the Integrated Coastal Management approach in three demonstration sites. Assistance will be given to: Implement ICM for sustainable fisheries development, port management and the resolution of multiple use conflicts; Local authorities in the development of the necessary co-ordination and management framework; Identify and resolve legal conflicts; Establish functional zonation schemes; Strengthen environmental monit-oring and surveillance protocols; Develop appropriate sustainable financing mechanisms for ICM.
