FAO are assisting the Eritrean Government with redevelopment of the country's Red Sea fisheries. An MEP team of specialists in coastal ecology, fisheries and economics were engaged to examine four potential harbour sites in Dankalia Province and provide a detailed project preparation document for possible African Development Bank funding. The mission includes a detailed assessment of the adjacent marine and coastal ecology, to determine the environmental sensitivity of each sub-project and, where necessary, to draw up terms of reference for full environmental impact assessment.
