Studies and Support Services to the Common Fisheries Policy. MEP will carry out sn analysis of the effects of fisheries subsidies in a number of target countries for eight OECD-member countries (Australia, Canada, Iceland, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Norway and the United States). Tasks involve compilation of an inventory of direct transfers, description of the tax treatment of the fisheries sector, survey of national social security rules and other arrangements, and an estimate of general service costs and infrastructure investments benefitting the fishing industry. Analysis will involve a comparison of the benefit from national financial transfers to the fisheries sector between countries and an overall assessment of the impact on investment, fishing effort and employment of the subsidies in each country.
