Following the Fiji Motor Sail experiment conducted by MEP in 1984, the Government chose to retrofit a second ship, the Cagidonu. A design study was carried out and the vessel fitted with a 350 sq. metre sailing rig. An MEP consultant supervised the operation in Fiji and carried out extensive sea trials.
