MEP were contracted to prepare an action plan for the industrial fisheries sector. An MEP team evaluated present exploitation of the fishery by foreign fleets, the small national fishery and the dilapidated infrastructure of Bissau port. The team worked with the Ministry of Fisheries to establish priorities for investment by the private sector and to identify changes in government legislation required for the private sector to be successful in the fisheries sector. MEP prepared an action plan to set up a pilot operation to be externally supported by two vessels to establish possible catch rates and species mix from the shrimp fishery.
