Socio - Economic Study

Region: Europe
Country: Ireland
Date: 1998 - 2000
Funded By: European Commission DGXIV

Implementation of regional socio-economic studies on employment and dependency on fishing in three separate countries: Ireland, Denmark and Greece. These studies follow on from the Europe-wide analysis in 1991 and for each country aim to (i) quantify the socio-economic importance of fishing (ii) determine the level of dependency in terms of jobs and incomes, and (iii) examine the impact of the EU Structural Policies. The study methodology involved statistical data gathering and analysis, calculation of dependency indicators and semi-structured interviews with key industry contacts. Input-output analysis was also carried out.
