Region: Europe
Country: Ireland
Date: 1998
Funded By: Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM - Irish Fisheries Board)
Study of Ireland's inshore fisheries for which there has been limited management in comparison with the offshore whitefish and pelagic fisheries. A questionnaire survey of 70 fishing skippers was undertaken along with 101 face-to-face interviews with inshore fisheries stakeholders. The data and information recorded were analysed using a purpose-designed relational computer database which was established to facilitate analysis of the inshore fishery parameters, identification of constraints and opportunities and allow for recommendations and strategies for future development and direction of inshore fisheries.
