MEP supplied a master boatbuilder/marine engineer to the Betio Shipyard for one year to supervise vessel construction, installation and maintenance of engines and training of local staff. Fishing boat production at the Government-owned shipyard was re-orientated and streamlined and shipyard operations became profitable for the first time, under the project.
