MEP were contracted by the EU to conduct a feasibility study into the introduction of long line fishing vessels. An MEP team evaluated the past performance of Te Mautari, the state-owned fishing company, and made recommendations for the future structure of the company. The proposed new long line operation was analysed in detail and a separate marketing study was carried out in Japan to verify market prices and preferences.
