Monitoring, Control and Surveillance of the 200-mile EEZ was carried out on behalf of the Government of Sierra Leone. Fisheries Patrol vessels were manned and operated, surveillance officers and boarding parties managed, transhipments and catches assessed, harbour inspections and licence measurements organised. Monitoring of fish stocks was undertaken through a scientific programme involving catch data analysis from vessels operating in the EEZ and trial fishing, as well as recommendations being made on licence numbers and TACs. Control systems through licensing and control of gear ensured that only licensed vessels operated in the EEZ and that they complied with control regulations.
