The Spanish tuna industry has operated fish traps along the southern Spanish coast to catch the Atlantic bluefin tuna on its migration into the Mediterranean Sea for more than 50 years. In 1989, a Chinese ship seriously damaged a trap at the height of the fishing season. MEP experts evaluated the damage on behalf of the underwriters and prepared all evidence to establish consequential loss from lack of fish landings. MEP experience in commercial fishing and knowledge of the resources enabled amicable settlement.
