Following the loss of 72,000 tonnes of crude oil from the MV Sea Empress in Milford Haven South Wales, MEP are acting as technical advisers to the compensatory bodies on fisheries issues. MEP has carried out a physical and financial overview of the local inshore crustacean, whelk, whitefish and cockle fisheries, including the processing industry. Compensation methodologies were constructed for each type of fishery and detailed assessments of individual fishing operations to establish losses were carried out. .
