MEP undertook a due diligence survey of a major European Seafood processor from raw material supply through to market. Raw material sourcing was seen to be a vital strategic issue and specialists travelled to Northern Norway and Iceland to assess partially owned primary processing companies sourcing white fish. A separate team looked at a wholly owned large multi-site salmon farming company in North-West Scotland. Particular attention was paid to site use, discharge arrangements and smolt supply. Processing and hygiene specialists examined the main processing plants in France and Belgium to assess their efficiency and potential to meet changing market requirements.
