MEP provided a multi-disciplinary team to advise on the management and development of the fisheries sector in the Republic of Yemen. A major component of the project was the construction of seven fish landing centres in Hadramaut and Al Mahara governorates. Other project activities included assistance with the monitoring, control and surveillance of Yemen's Exclusive Economic Zone, development of fisheries legislation, support for the research capabilities of the Marine Science and Resources Research Centre and institutional strengthening of the Ministry of Fish Wealth. The main emphasis of the project was to support the transition from a mainly state-run fisheries sector to a fishing industry with increasing private sector involvement.
