MEP prepared the initial environmental assessment for the development of the Port of Aden into a large Free Zone Port, involving the construction of a large container trans-shipment terminal, deepening of the existing berths and harbour entrance and construction on a land area next to the harbour. An MEP team assessed the marine and terrestrial ecology of the harbour area and vicinity, took soil, sediment and water samples for chemical analysis and made a record of habitats and species. Recommendations were then made on sensitive areas, critical issues and further research required.
