Mid-term Review of the Implementation of a Fisheries Management Plan for Lake Victoria

Region: Africa
Country: Kenya
Date: May 2006
Funded By: European Commission

The Lake Victoria Fisheries Management Plan funded by the European Commission (Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania) is a large multi-discipline project working to manage the Natural Resources of Lake Victoria on behalf of the Riparian States. MEP was contracted to undertake the mid term review of the project. The multidisciplinary MEP team of four experts included a team leader, a senior Monitoring, Control and Surveillance of fisheries expert (MCS), a financial and administrative systems expert with extensive knowledge of EDF procedures and a socio-economist. The experts were mobilised shortly after the contract was awarded, and within 30 days, the team had visited the main sites of the three countries and had performed debriefing to stakeholders. Recommendations were made in order to improve both the efficiency and effectiveness of the project management which have been accepted by the stakeholders.
