MEP were contracted by the client to survey commercial fisheries operating in Cornwall and Devon that could be affected by the establishment of an exclusion zone around the proposed Wave Hub development off St Ives Bay in Cornwall, UK. The survey included identification of vessels with a reliance on the fishing grounds in the vicinity of the exclusion zone and interviews with the fishing community, fisheries representatives and regulatory bodies to determine the level of financial impact that may be experienced by these vessels. While an EIA had been completed for the Wave Hub development, the fisheries evaluation survey was designed to be complementary by providing the client with: a detailed picture of commercial fishing operations; an understanding of how commercial fisheries could be impacted, and; a detailed analysis of the financial impact to local fisheries should the exclusion zone be implemented.
