Dr Heidi Guille

Managing Director

Heidi is the Managing Director at Macalister Elliott and Partners Ltd. She is a fisheries ecologist who started her career in academic research before moving on to advising Government bodies and stakeholders, in particular the fishing industry, on how to operationalise marine conservation policy and regulations at a local and national scale. Heidi has developed environmental risk assessments and management plans for marine protected areas (MPAs) to support sustainable fishing activities. Heidi led a large team of specialists in the provision of scientific advice for over sixty MPAs to complete the UK’s ‘blue belt’. As a Senior Policy Advisor for DEFRA, she worked closely with UK fisheries stakeholders and EU Member States to implement the Landing Obligation (discard ban) through strategic and technical plans, policy and legislation, as well as contributing to the UK’s strategy at the annual fisheries negotiations in Brussels.

Since joining MEP in 2019, Heidi has been able to apply her experience and skills to the management and delivery of a variety of UK and international projects. Those projects include reviews of fisheries policy, legislation and management frameworks; analysis and interpretation of stock assessment, landings, trade, monitoring and control and other fisheries data; value chain assessment; institutional, governance and infrastructure development recommendations; advice on potential climate impacts on fisheries productivity; and Natural Capital assessments.
