Government meeting
Stephen Akester and Alex Senechal from MEP were in Myanmar in February, working with the government in the capital Naypyitaw and with industry in Yangon, to set out a strategy to establish a fishing vessel monitoring system for the industrial fishery.
Working with the national team from the Department of Fisheries and coordinated by the Danish financed Sustainable Coastal Fisheries, the MEP team agreed work plans for the Department of Fisheries, marine electronic suppliers and commercial fishing vessel owners to achieve the Department of Fisheries VMS implementation schedule.
